Many people can sense that something is “coming” before they actually become sick. The body may feel heavy, the head may feel unclear, energy may drop, the throat may feel strange, and there can be a vague sense that the body is not functioning as usual. This can happen hours or days before clear symptoms such as fever, cough, nasal congestion, or sore throat appear.

This early phase is not random. When the body encounters viruses, bacteria, or another form of biological strain, the immune system begins reacting before illness is fully noticeable. Many of the early symptoms are not caused directly by the microbe itself, but by the body’s own immune response and the signaling molecules released to protect you.

When viruses or bacteria enter the body, the immune system tries to detect them quickly. This happens through cells that monitor the mucous membranes, blood, and tissues.
