Balance is a core functional domain in neurorehabilitation. Regardless of whether a patient is admitted after stroke, traumatic brain injury, or spinal cord injury, the ability to sit, stand, transfer, and walk safely is fundamental to independence, fall risk management, and rehabilitation goal setting. For clinicians and researchers, this creates a persistent challenge: identifying balance outcome measures that are reliable, interpretable, and comparable across diagnostic groups, without fragmenting assessment into multiple instruments with different scales and limitations.
