Physical activity in the early phase after stroke is a clinically important target. Even during hospitalization, the amount of movement patients accumulate across the day may influence deconditioning, mobility recovery, and longer-term lifestyle patterns relevant to secondary prevention. Yet observational research and clinical experience consistently show that people admitted with stroke often spend most of their daytime sedentary, frequently in or beside the bed—even when neurological impairment is mild and independent ambulation is possible.
